This Year 2 writing unit delves into the inspiring story of Olive Morris, a remarkable woman who fought for equality and justice. Through engaging activities and vibrant illustrations, students will step into the shoes of a detective, making predictions about the story using picture clues and their own background knowledge. They’ll become inquisitive investigators, formulating questions about the characters and events using question stems like “Who,” “What,” “Why,” and “How.” Students will also uncover hidden meanings, inferring emotions, motivations, and the significance of Olive’s actions. Finally, they’ll piece together the puzzle, sequencing key events in Olive’s life to understand her journey and impact. This unit not only develops essential writing skills but also introduces young learners to the power of activism, resilience, and making a difference in the world.
